Thought Provoking Quotes from Rumi

Rumi, a poet and scholar from 13th-century Iran, said some profound things.

The power of his words and his knowledge have no boundaries and will endure forever. The elegance of his words explains why so many creative people have looked to him as a source of inspiration over the years.

You can expect more optimism, love, and enlightenment in your life after reading his words. If you’re ready to change your perspective, read these quotes and allow yourself to be inspired by the splendor within.

You have changed significantly during the past decade. The same is true for me. A quest that started with the question “how can I change this world with my ideas?” has shifted in recent years to focus on the question “how can I change myself so that I can be better suited to contribute to this world.”

In order to become a better version of yourself, you need to learn how to increase your self-awareness, strengthen your attitude, find purpose in your work, and form mindful habits that increase your productivity, but this does not mean you have to abandon your core identity.

The point is to learn more about who you are and how you may improve so that you are more thankful, resilient, confident, and productive in your daily life. Put your energy into improving yourself, and only then will you be able to make a beneficial impact on the world around you.

It has been said that “the more quiet you are, the more you can hear.”

Rumi

Two “Think Weeks” every year are spent by Bill Gates in seclusion in a remote cabin. He does this so he can concentrate on his work, find inspiration, and get away from distractions. Happiness, less stress, and a decreased risk of depression have all been linked to the ability to enjoy time alone.

It’s impossible to be alone and not be in complete silence. Because “the quieter you become, the more you are able to hear,” making time each day to be alone with your thoughts is essential.

Knowing what to disregard is a skill in itself. Ignore the voices that bring you down and make you feel afraid, depressed, and closer to disease and death.

The majority of those who try to discourage you from pursuing your passions will do so out of insecurity and will try to inflict their own personal limitations on you.

Author of The One Thing Gary Keller advises, “Say no to anyone or anything that could derail you in order to protect what you’ve said yes to and remain productive.”

We are constantly bombarded by distractions, and it can be easy to lose focus. It’s crucial to learn to reject offers. Refuse to accept the criticism of those who believe otherwise. Don’t pay attention to the naysayers; they’re holding you back. Ignore worry, bad thoughts, and criticism.

You have to block out the background noise if you want to create art. Recognize the power in blocking out distractions that keep you from improving and progressing toward your goals.

“It’s your road, and yours alone, others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.”

Rumi

Thus, if you lack the confidence to pursue your goals, you will never achieve them.

The bulk of my life I’ve been promising myself that I’ll “write a book” someday. But I did nothing except talk about it, never putting my thoughts down on paper. I would constantly come up with an excuse as to why I couldn’t, such as “I don’t have time to write” or “it’s a great book idea but I don’t know how to start it.”

When we are too timid to go after what we truly desire, we construct illusory justifications for our actions in the form of excuses.

You’ll never get out on the road if you keep making excuses. The future you will look back on with sorrow and say “I wish I had.”

You must always be the one to take the first initiative toward your goals in life. Get moving along the road now so that others can follow in your footsteps later on.

As the saying goes, “The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”

Rumi

The night of May 19th, 2017, I was riding my bike when I was involved in an accident and passed out in the middle of the road. As a result, I had to have surgery and lost most of my summer to recovery. Nonetheless, the experience of being injured in that event changed me forever.

The dictionary describes light as “the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible.” My eyes were opened by the accident and I could see clearly for the first time. It made me take things more slowly and appreciate what I have more fully. It made me more appreciative of what I had, and it led me down a path of introspection I hadn’t been on before.

A wound is an entry point for the light that makes the world visible. Nothing in life is smooth sailing; we all feel the sting of loss and disappointment at some point. The trick is to allow the light to enter you and reveal what you cannot see in the moment’s darkness.

“Inside you there’s an artist you don’t know about.”

Rumi

In a similar vein, Picasso once said:

“All children are artists. How to keep being creative as an adult is the challenge.

J.K. Rowling is a master storyteller because of the way she builds suspense. In basketball, Kobe Bryant was a true artist. Michael Jackson was a true artist because of his ability to make music come to life. To paraphrase Pablo Picasso, “The world today doesn’t make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?” demonstrates the artistry of Picasso’s interpretations.

Expressions of or interventions into the human capacity for creative talent and imagination are considered works of art. That means every single one of us possesses the artistic potential to do something beautiful. The trick is to give oneself permission to investigate it.

Keep your inner child in mind at all times. You have your own unique style and that makes you an artist. If you want to rediscover your hidden talents and reignite your childlike wonder, the question is whether you’re prepared to put in the time and effort.

“As you start to walk on the way, the way appears.”

Rumi

Truthfully, this is the case. In many cases, we hesitate to take action because we have an idea of where we want to go but no clue as to how to get there.

If you’re like most people, you’d love to start your own business but have no idea where to begin. You dream of writing for the New York Times Bestseller List, but you have no idea how to get there. You’ve decided to pursue a career in music, but you’re not sure how to get your songs out there.

But where you go is what matters most, not how you get there.

To be happy, you need to have a sense of forward momentum in your life. Avoid worrying about the small stuff and get going already. Once you start moving in the direction of your goal, the details of the route you’ll take will become clear. However, before you can find the “how,” you need to get moving. It’s something you can learn as you go along.

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It won’t get you into any trouble.

Rumi

A lot of people refer to this as “passion.” The term “purpose” is often used to describe this phenomenon. To others, it has a deeper meaning. Name it what you will, but “curiosity” is what ultimately leads you to pursue it.

Curiosity, on the other hand, is not a mental process but rather a visceral response. When you develop romantic feelings for someone, it’s a natural progression from having a crush on them to going on a date with them to eventually dating them. In the end, it’s the passion you have for writing that determines whether you remain a novice blogger or progress to published author. Allow yourself to be enticed by it.

Don’t be afraid to act on your gut instincts. It may take you to a destination you never ever dreamed of.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

Rumi

This is very lovely. Rumi is essentially arguing that self-love is prerequisite before loving another person.

When we first entered this world, we did so as a tiny bundle of delight, yelling our way into being. Negative beliefs about ourselves, such as “I’m not good enough,” “I’m fat,” or “I’m not a good person,” are things we’ve come to believe either because we were told them as children and never questioned them or because we’ve said (and continue to say) them to ourselves so often that they’ve become ingrained.

Taking care of yourself is crucial to your mental and physical well-being. To accept and love oneself entails forgiving oneself for mistakes made in the past and accepting oneself as one is right now. Simply telling yourself positive affirmations like “I am good enough,” “I love my body,” and “I am a good person” can make a huge difference.

“The garden of the world has no limits, except in your mind.”

Rumi

It is the most potent because it serves as a constant reminder that we are the ones who determine our own limitations.

Imagine the world as a beautiful garden, full with greenery and waterfalls, from which endless opportunities spring. It can also be viewed as a never-ending source of misery and a merciless death machine.

Which one do you choose?

In a very real sense, the world is what you make it to be. You can view the gardens of development through a lens of positive opportunity, or you can see the pit of doom through a lens of negative constraints.

“Wearing gratitude as a cloak will nourish every area of your life.”

Rumi

More happiness can be expected from a grateful attitude, according to recent studies.

It not only frees you from negative feelings, boosts your health and mood, and has long-lasting beneficial effects on the brain, but it also allows you to experience more joy, adapt better to hardship, and forge deeper bonds with those you care about.

When you practise gratitude, you open yourself up to a more generous outlook on life. If you make a habit of being grateful, you will see the benefits in many areas of your life.

“You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?”

Rumi

You’ve always had wings. Your destiny is to soar, to travel, and to learn. Exactly why are you stooping to crawling around? I don’t see why you aren’t letting your convictions fill your wings and taking flight.

Fear, wouldn’t you say?

This is natural, as anxiety is ever-present in human life. But as time has passed, I’ve realised that fear isn’t an obstacle we have to surmount, but rather an emotion we need to reroute. Anxiety is innate, and it manifests itself only in response to threats to values we hold dear; it is a type of resistance designed to keep us from blowing our stacks.

Fear can be subdued by developing apathy toward the thing you don’t want to do. Only when you have a leaning or curiosity in something do you start to feel apprehensive about it. You can either give in to your fears and continue to slither through life, or you can spread your wings and soar like the magnificent bird you were meant to be.

“You become who you might be when you let go of who you are.”

Rumi

If you want to make it as a business owner, you have to let go of your old ways of thinking and doing things. To grow as a writer and overcome your inherent insecurities, you must learn to overcome your doubts and fears and embrace the process of “becoming.”

The pursuit of happiness is a journey in and of itself. If you set out on a journey, you just might end up where you want to be. However, if you want to develop and broaden, you must be willing to let go of your present self, including any self-limiting ideas, behaviors, or internal dialogue. Your own limitations are the only thing stopping you from succeeding.
