Techniques for Keeping Your Mind Sharp and Alert

Share your love

Maintaining composure, optimism, and mental acuity is crucial in the event that swift, decisive action is required.

If you’re one of the fortunate few, you’ve spent the last two weeks doing everything from getting up to going to sleep in the same location where you also happen to be working, socializing, and conducting all of your other daily activities.

But now is the time to keep your feet on the ground, your attitude upbeat, and your head clear in case you need to make a split-second choice.

Set your priorities

Focus on what has to be done most, and drop the rest for the time being. Let yourself do less and be adaptable to new circumstances. Organize your time so that you can do everything from work to eating to spending time with loved ones to taking care of yourself.

Develop a morning routine to give you the boost you need to tackle the day, and schedule some downtime in the evening to help you relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Capture

One of the most useful things you can do while your quarantine is write down your ideas. According to Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way,” it’s best to get these down on paper first thing in the morning.

Putting pen to paper first thing in the morning is a great way to clear your head, generate new thoughts, and prevent them from slipping your mind. This tool has served me well for the past five years. It serves its purpose while being easy to implement.

Meditate

You need not sit like a monk for long periods of time. You can work up to 15–30 minutes of silent meditation by starting with only one minute. To meditate is not to empty one’s thoughts. Instead, meditation entails bringing awareness to the present moment by focusing on bodily sensations, such as breathing, or thoughts, such as a positive affirmation (mantra). A good place to begin your meditation practise is with the HeadSpace app.

Rest

Resetting your body’s clock during sleep is essential. Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial if you want to maintain a calm nervous system and lower levels of anxiety throughout this trying time. Yoga Nidra is a sleep gem that not many people know about if you have difficulty falling or staying asleep at night. Some yogis believe that this 20-minute guided meditation is equivalent to a full night’s rest.

The Insight Timer app provides hundreds of free Yoga Nidra guided meditations as well as soothing music to help you unwind and meditate.

Look For Support

Keep an eye out for any emotions that may surface. Respect them. It will take some time to adjust to your new lifestyle and the pandemic issue at large. The moment for pridelessness is passed; now is the time for asking for aid. We’re all in this together, and you can get the aid you need from loved ones, friends, therapists, and professionals if that’s what you choose to do as well. Obtaining such assistance is simple, as the internet provides numerous resources (e.g. yoga therapists, reiki practitioners, psychotherapists, online business coaching, etc.)

Keep in Touch

Involve yourself in the lives of those you love and protect Mother Earth. Be grateful for your immediate community and the beautiful environment you share it with. Rather than just texting, take the time to send a voice message or a video.

At least once a week, go for a solitary stroll to think things over, breathe some fresh air, and keep an eye out for interesting things.

Include Happiness in Your Life

Make a plan for the future and a list of the things that make you happy. The immune system responds favourably to positive emotions, so if you want to stay healthy, it’s a good idea to give yourself some time to do things that make you happy, like listening to music, painting, or learning a new skill. The language-learning app Duolingo and the business-skills site Lynda.com are two of my favourites.

Trust

Reckon on the support of the Cosmos. Have faith in the universe’s timetable and the eventual arrival of better times. The time to reunite with loved ones is quickly approaching, and when it does, new ideas will emerge.

The true transformation takes place in challenging times like these, and by banding together we shall emerge stronger than ever.

Keep your feet on the ground, get plenty of rest, and keep your mind sharp.
